Data Protection & Confidentiality

We, New London College, are the Data Controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act and respect the privacy of our students and staff. We collect information from you, and may receive information about you from your previous school or college. We respect your privacy and your preferences regarding the collection and use of your personal information and assure you of complete confidentiality

We hold this personal data and use it to:

  • support your teaching and learning;
  • monitor and report on your progress;
  • provide appropriate pastoral care; and
  • assess how well you are doing.

This information includes your contact details, national curriculum assessment results, attendance information, characteristics such as ethnic group, special educational needs and any relevant medical information. We will ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

When you supply any personal information to New London College we have legal obligations towards you in the way we deal with that data. We must collect the information fairly, that is, we must explain how we will use it and tell you if we want to pass the information on to anyone else. In general, any information you provide to New London College will only be used within New London College and by its service providers. It will never be supplied to anyone outside New London College without first obtaining your consent, unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it.  However, we are required by law to pass some of your information to the Department for Education (DfE) or any other regulatory body. This applies to your name, email addresses, personal information and any email correspondence.

If you post or send offensive or inappropriate content anywhere on or to the New London College website or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on the New London College website, and New London College considers such behaviour to be serious and/or repeated, the College can use whatever information that is available to it about you to stop such behaviour. This may include informing relevant third parties such as your employer, college or email provider about the content and your behaviour.

If you are notified on NLC website that your information may be used to allow NLC to contact you for 'service administration purposes', this means that NLC may contact you for a number of purposes related to the service you have signed up for. We will not contact you for promotional purposes, such as notifying you of improvements to the service or new services on NLC website unless you specifically agree to be contacted for such purposes at the time you submit your information on the website, or at a later time if you sign up specifically to receive such information.
