Introduction |
Information Technology is a field of almost limitless career
opportunities, yet the most satisfactory and fulfilling careers
are those that have been well planned. IMIS is
a UK Accrediting Body that runs its own Examination Syllabus
leading towards the IMIS
qualification, which is recognised and respected in the
field of information systems management around the world.
The Higher Diploma leads to IMIS Associate Grade. It extends and complements
the Diploma Course to give students a comprehensive knowledge of the entire field
of operations, programming, systems analysis and design, and computer management.
A Higher Diploma award equates to the Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/HND)
and prepares candidates for work at the equivalent level of analyst/team leader.
|
Course Aims |
|
The IMIS qualification is structured to provide recognition
for all levels of achievement. Combined with the IMIS Syllabus
and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme, it
is designed to support information systems professionals throughout
their careers.
The aim of the Higher Diploma is to provide students with:
- Management of IS: An in depth knowledge of the use of
information systems to support and promote management decisions
in the context of the modern work environment and the ability
to apply such knowledge to address management related issues.
- Development of IS: An understanding and ability to apply
appropriate techniques and tools within a given approach
to information systems development, taking into account the
historical context.
- Development of IS/Technological Support for IS: An opportunity
to demonstrate how to apply appropriate technological systems
and infrastructures to support a business information systems
solution.
- People Issues: An understanding and ability to evaluate
and apply appropriate techniques, which achieves successful
project management and implementation that is socially desirable
and legally compliant.

Course
Market |
There is an increasing need for a new kind
of highly computer literate business professional who can take
responsibility for developing many day to day business applications
using spreadsheets, databases and other rapid application development
packages. They also need to be able to help specify new and
secure systems, to be able to work confidently with their IT
colleagues on a larger scale project, and to understand the
business potential for networking and the Internet.
The course is aimed principally at providing
a professional qualification for the following markets:
- young people who want to work with computers and need
some entry level education
- employees wishing to develop their professional skills
in information systems.
- students wishing to achieve a Degree in a flexible and
modular basis, at their own convenience and timescale.
- international students aiming to achieve a world class
professional qualification in information system.
|
Course Structure |
All modules defined within the course structure may be taken
individually or collectively to form a Diploma. Each module
is designed to introduce the student to the basic elements
of information systems practices. The syllabus is based on
four themes, which are developed within and across the levels.
Concepts, principles, methods and ideas may be introduced at
one level and be expanded in a conceptually more demanding
next level. Modules may be based predominantly on one theme
but of necessity topics will be integrated.
All Six papers must be passed.
