Introduction


The Accounting & Book-Keeping qualification evaluates learners' ability to produce accounts for businesses.

Areas covered at Level 3 include:

Prepare financial information for:

  • Sole traders
  • Partnerships
  • Limited liability companies
  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Manufacturing accounts.

The financial information will include balance sheets, profit and loss accounts and period end adjustments.

Course Aims

At Level 3 the aim of the qualification is to further develop the practices and processes studied at level one and two book-keeping and accounts, to enable candidates to record and interpret financial transactions up to and including final accounts.

Candidates will:

  • Prepare final accounts of sole trader, partnerships, companies and not-for-profit organisations from conventional and incomplete records
  • prepare year end and other adjustments associated with the above variety of organizations
  • demonstrate an understanding of accounts through analysis and interpretation

The qualification aims to allow candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the accounting sector.

The course is suitable for anyone looking for a qualification as the starting point for a career in book-keeping and accounts.

The course is aimed at candidates who work or want to work in job roles such as:

  • Accounting technician
  • Accounts/Finance clerk
  • Private practice accountant

Course Structure

There are eight learning outcomes to this unit.

Prepare financial information for a sole trader business

Prepare financial information for a partnership

Prepare financial information for limited liability companies

Prepare financial information for no-for-profit organisations

Prepare financial information to record the manufacturing process in final accounts

6

Prepare financial information for a sole trader from incomplete records

Prepare a balance sheet

8

Analyse and interpret final accounts

Duration

The Course is for duration of 10 weeks, with one class of 3 hours duration per week.

Assessment

Level 3 Accounting & Book-Keeping - Externally set and marked test

This unit will be assessed by a 2 hour 30 minutes question paper, which will be externally marked. The examination paper will take the format of a number of practical tasks. All areas of the syllabus will be tested on every paper and questions will follow a standard format, although details will vary on each paper.

Assessments will be graded Pass or First Class Pass. Detailed marking and grading criteria are provided within the Examination Support Guide.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking the qualification. However, the candidates are expected to have the passed the Level-2 qualification in Book-Keeping & Accounts or equivalent.

There are no age limits attached to candidates undertaking the qualification unless this is a legal requirement of the process or the environment.

Exemptions

There are no Exemptions allowed for this qualification. Candidates are not allowed to enter for a qualification of the same type, content and level as that of a qualification they already hold.

Progression:

On completion of these qualifications candidates may progress into employment or to the following qualifications:

NLC is authorised by the Oracle University for the Workforce Development Program and provides training in Oracle Applications-Financial Module. Students interested in enhancing their career prospects in the Financial Software industry can consider enrolling on this course.
